EZLN to Initiate the Second Stage of it's Direct Participation in the Other Campaign

The EZLN, by means of their Sixth Commission, announces to the companeras and companeros adherents to the Sixth Declaration and the Other Campaign, to the Zezta International and to the people of Mexico and the world the following:

First: Due to the new offensive against the Zapatista communities carried out by paramilitaries affiliated with the PRI and PRD and supported by the state [Democratic Revolution Party] and federal [National Action Party] governments, the Zapatista leadership has had to make some adjustments that will allow continued protection of our communities and at the same time fulfilling their commitments with the Other Campaign. more

Agenda for UK Zapatista Solidarity Network Gathering, next week, Brighton

Each day the gathering will start with a shared breakfast, then have one session before lunch and another after lunch. On the Saturday evening we hope there will be opportunity to watch films showing the struggles of Mexicans in Oaxaca and Chiapas.

In addition to our solidarity activities with the Zapatistas, we will also be discussing what we can do in solidarity with the people of Oaxaca and Atenco, both of which have suffered severe state violence recently as payment for their dignity and courage in rebellion.  more

Zapatistas establishing camp with Cucapa near border

Subcomandante Marcos announced the Zapatistas will establish a peace camp in a community of Cucapa (Cocapah) near the U.S. border in Baja California, Mexico. The Cocopah and Quilihua peoples are struggling to survive because of the loss of fishing rights. A second peace camp will be estbalished near San Cristobal in March. more

Communiqué from the Indigenous Revolutionary Clandestine Committee – General Command of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation :

... As has been denounced by the Autonomous Municipalities and the Good Government Councils, the supposed campaigns against narcotrafficking carried out by the government are a farce. Just like that which took Mr. Calderón Hinojosa to power.

Mexico: Freedom for Anarchist Prisoners in Oaxaca! Freedom for Oscar and Sacramento!

Among the many prisoners being held in jails around Mexico are anarchist activists Oscar Santa Maria. Anarchists and anti-authoritarians have played a vital role in the struggle against the government of Ulisses Ruiz Ortiz in Oaxaca.

From Magonistas like the CODEP and CIPO-RFM to the Bloque Autonomo (Autonomous Bloc) and the Ocupacion Intercultural en Resistencia, anarchists and anti authoritarians have had an important presence in maintaining barricades in the face of attacks from paramilitaries and police as well as helping repel the PFP (Federal Preventative Police) during street battles in front of the University, in media and cultural projects and spaces, political prisoner support and within the APPO itself. more

Oaxaca, Mexico - repression and resistance - January 2007

Reposted from Edinburgh Chiapas Solidarity Group: The New Year has seen more brutal repression in Oaxaca, including the murder of teacher Enriqueta Santiago Santiago by a death squad after her abduction on 12th January.

Resistance such as street and prison demos is continuing (though with fewer people than earlier) while indigenous Triquis have declared an autonomous municipality. A "megamarch" has been called for 3 February in Oaxaca City.  more
