UK: "We will not be intimidated" – Mass resistance to new offence of publishing information about police officers

from email via fitwatch, 18 November 2008: The new Counter Terrorism Bill, currently in The Lords, contains an amendment to Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000. This amendment will make it an offence, punishable by up to ten years imprisonment, to publish or elicit information about any police constable "of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism"... This is a call from Fitwatch for a mass publishing of information on police officers on the day this Bill receives its Royal Assent. The date will be published as soon as we have it, but it is likely to be early 2009. more

SchNews - Fifth Columnist: the Observer trots out police line over eco-terrorism

SchNews - Fifth Columnist: the Observer trots out police line over eco-terrorism

from schnews, 15 November 2008: The Observer launched a broadside this week against the environmental movement. Headlined “Police warn of growing threat from eco-terrorists”- handily sub-headed, “Fear of deadly attack by lone maverick as officers alert major firms to danger of green extremism” - the article goes on to allege that “Officers are concerned that a ‘lone maverick’ eco-extremist may attempt a terrorist attack aimed at killing large numbers of Britons.”

Of course not one shred of evidence is referred to in the thinly disguised puff-piece for the National Extremism Tactical Co-ordination Unit (NETCU).

The words of an unnamed police source are all it takes to generate the spectre of carbon-neutral suicide bombings coming to a city-centre near you. more

Observer: UK Police warn of growing threat from eco-terrorists

from various sources, 14 November 2008: "Officers from a specialist unit dedicated to tackling domestic terrorism are monitoring an eco-movement called Earth First! which has advocates who state that cutting the Earth's population by 80 per cent will ease pressure on other species. Officers are concerned a 'lone maverick' eco-extremist may attempt a terrorist attack aimed at killing large numbers of Britons..." more

NETCU Watch are terrorists: thoughts on s58a of the Counter Terrorism Bill

from netcu watch, updated 18 November 2008: "This is yet another piece of legislation spewed out by the government and at a glance it appears to make the police get an even tighter stranglehold over us... In a nutshell it will become an offence punishable by up to 10 years to elicit information about a member of the armed forces, intelligence services or police (or indeed anyone who has in the past done any of these occupations) which might be useful for terrorists..." more

Statement from austrian prisoner Martin Balluch after his release

from vgt.at, 16 September 2008: Its now been a week since I was released from prison. 104 days in a prison cell are over. It is seriously shocking to see how far police repression will go in order to stop legitimate and successful protest for animals in the name of a majority of the population, just because it runs contrary to the profit interests of a powerful minority. Many many thanks to each and everyone of you for all you have done for me. I am deeply humbled by the immense amount of solidarity and support we prisoners have received from the international animals rights community. more

Feds still probing attacks by Earth Liberation Front

from if, corporate media, 13 September 2008: Radical environmentalist Kevin Tucker took the stage at Mercyhurst College two years ago to sound his call for a world freed from civilization. Today, he is scheduled to take a seat before a different kind of Erie audience -- a federal grand jury. The 28-year-old former Pennsylvania resident said he has been subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury that is investigating a series of arsons and other politically motivated acts of sabotage and vandalism in the Erie area in 2002 and 2003. more

SchNEWS - Internment Is New Tactic To Deal With Animal Rights Movement

from ukwatch, 30 January 2008: The screws have been tightened on the animal rights (AR) movement yet again. In this country, and in the US, there has been a serious state attempt to deal with the strength of the animal rights movement by using an extra-legal form of internment. Currently the three most prominent activists from the SHAC - Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty campaign - Greg Avery, Natasha Avery and Heather Nicholson - are all on remand, after high profile arrests back on May 1st 2007. They are charged with ‘conspiracy to blackmail’. Now the same applies to the main spokesman for the SPEAK campaign, Mel Broughton. more

Anarchists, radical environmentalists and other activists from across the country are gearing up for a “massive week of resistance” in opposition to an international biotechnology conference in Boston next month that likely will mark the largest Hub protests since the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

While police resources are already stretched from a spike in street violence, the department is bracing for potentially large-scale protests of the BIO International Convention May 6-9 at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. The city is in the midst of building a security plan reminiscent of the costly show of force at the DNC. more

SPEAK founders facing imprisonment

The news that Oxford University is now seeking to imprison two of the founders of SPEAK - Robert Cogswell and Mel Broughton – merely serves to illustrate what SPEAK have maintained all along. The University’s self-serving agenda has consistently proved that they are not the "bastion of free speech" they claim to be; they have ridden roughshod over the democratic principles for which this country was once known, and have made a mockery of civil liberties in the pursuit of furthering the immoral and fraudulent science they practise. more

At this moment the Underground Armies of Barbarian Anarchists are getting scant attention. Still, we are on a very short list.
