Denver Convention: Everything for Everyone - A Small Demand
from anarchist news dot org, 7 August 2008: On the evening of August 25, the night of the Democratic Party’s fundraising events, we will manifest ourselves not as a focus group but as a force: against capitalism and in solidarity with those who fight against policing on a daily basis ... against the destruction of the planet; and for our own needs for a total transformation of society. At 6 p.m., gather as a Black Bloc at Civil Center Park in downtown Denver ... Be materially prepared. We do not seek a mere march against capitalism but rather a communication mechanism to inquire of others a modest question: "We want everything. Do you?" more
Social War Not Climate Chaos: meetings at the Kingsnorth climate camp
from email, 7 August 2008: Social War Not Climate Chaos! Starting Tuesday, daily meetings at the Scottish Barrio from 5-7 PM will explore how the climate crisis, a facet of the more general latest crisis in capitalism itself, can be used to build a new kind of autonomous social movement constituted as a material force...a force capable of confronting and ultimately halting capitalism. These meetings are not on the official climate camp workshop list, of course. more
Anarchism in Venezuela, past and present...
from email, 23 April 2008: The profile of anarchism in Venezuelan history has been less pronounced than in other parts of Latin America, where it has vigorously manifested itself through collective struggles, publications, personalities and ideological debate. It is, however, worth pointing out that it has also influenced our social and cultural evolution. more
Death of a Dichotomy: Tactical diversity and the politics of post-violence
from uppingtheanti, 21 April 2008: "In a 2001 In These Times article on the FTAA demonstrations in Quebec City, Abby Scher, like many others, reflected on the effective interplay between protesters’ violent and non-violent tactics. She ended her discussion with the question: “Is Quebec… a wonderful demonstration of ‘a diversity of tactics’ – or a turning point where the gap between tactics yawns larger?” Now, six years later in a post-9/11 climate, the ‘War on Terror’ continues, corporate power grows, and frustration has set in amongst many movement participants. As protesters are finding themselves disheartened, pessimistic, and often downright bored with ineffective demonstrations, questions about movement tactics are resurfacing. Specifically, many people are voicing a call for more confrontational direct actions in our struggles against globalization and imperialism..." more

Personal reflections and opinions on the S26 mobilisation, Prague 2000
One of the most important aspects of the way the Prague demonstration was organised was the accommodation of diversity it offered. After everyone gathered at a central location (a square in the middle of the city) and a brief march around the square, the crowd made its way as one in the direction of the IMF Conference Centre. more
Bucharest Declaration after the NATO summit
from contra-doxa, 5 April 2008: As long as there will be war, as well as systems and organizations that support militarization, murder, and profit-making from conflicts, there will be always movements protesting against them. Nowadays NATO is the most influential military alliance in the world. That’s why wherever a NATO summit will take place there will be people resisting it. Bucharest is not an exception. In spite of the media intoxication as well as governmental repressions, which started already months before the summit, hundreds of anti-militarists both, Romanian and international, gathered in the capital city, Bucharest. more
Some Berlin anarchists: An open letter to common people of Romania
from email, 1 April 2008: Here in Berlin we have heard last days that for some reasons some clever people sitting at the power position in Romania are trying to antagonise the common Romanian people and the anarchists by spreading rumours about an arrival of the “bus with Berlin anarchists” to Bucharest for the anti-NATO protests. If this is a fact, we, anarchists from Berlin, would like to confirm the information about the arrival from our side, but what is much more important, is to explain our motivations behind visiting Bucharest at the beginning of April to the people in Romania. more

International Anarchist Conspiracy Communique # 4 (On Liberals, Control And Spell Casting)
by IAC, 12 December 2007: "In the US (the IAC knows the situation is similar in other countries but will only directly refer to the situation in the US), the Liberals have exhausted themselves and do not know what to do. The State is doing what it wants to do without them. Their petitions and marches and people's tribunals have done NOTHING of any value to anyone who is being killed (quickly or slowly) by this system. A large number of people know this, but they are still sheepishly looking for a leader or leaders to fix everything for them..." more

Move into the light? Postscript to a turbulent 2007
from turbulence, 29 November 2007: "When we think about winning, our eyes are drawn to things that are highly visible or easy-to-measure, such as institutional or legislative change, the opening of a social centre or an increase in membership. That’s where the light is. But we also need to assess victories in the less tangible though just as real realm of possibilities..." more
Grey Anarchy: The Story of the Cascadian Anarchists and the Battle for Olympia
from email, 24 November 07: "Time is not linear. It has been forced to be that way. This is never more apparent to me than during a period of sustained actions. Dates and minutes become meaningless and a month can become one endless day. In order to honor the boundlessness of this state, I will relate the following events out of sequence. The following events took place between the 27th of October and the 13th of November. The following events did not end..." more

Newswires: SOCPA
The SOCPA laws were introduced into UK law to prevent unauthorised demonstrations and protest in the area of the Houses of Parliament. Wearing a t-shirt with a slogan or reading a list of the names of those killed in the Iraq invasion and occupation were treated as criminal acts. There is now a review where it seems likely the SOCPA demonstration laws will be repealed.

Two points from Mexico: Integrating activism on both the points of production and consumption
from dionysusunemployed.net, August 21 2007: During a recent trip to Mexico I spoke with an acquaintance who is a gringo expat in Mexico City working for a community radio station with strong ties to La Otra Campaña.
While discussing the immanence of revolution in Mexico and the lack of any coherent revolutionary movement in the US she brought up two very important points: 1) the US has vast independent media resources yet lacks a movement for it to mobilize behind, 2) in the US activism focuses too heavily on the point of consumption rather than on the point of production. more
