R.I.P. Fransisco Moran: Murdered by Modesto Police

From Modesto Anarcho Fransisco Moran, a 45 year old man was shot and killed by police in North East Modesto on early Monday morning, as officers responded to a civil dispute at his home. In the newspaper on Tuesday, police claimed that Moran was "belligerent" and "intoxicated," and after being tasered, came at police with a knife that was taken from his pants. This forced them to shoot Moran dead. Seems like we've heard this story before haven't we? In 2003, police shot and killed Eustolio Aguilar, after they claimed he was reaching for a gun. After he was dead, it turned out he was reaching for a cell phone. In 2004, police shot and killed Sammy Galvan, also after responding to a domestic dispute in which they stated that Sammy tried to throw a knife at them. Later, witnesses and family claimed that Sammy only had a can opener. In 2006, police shot Melron Johnson, again claiming that he was armed with a knife. Later, it was revealed that Johnson in fact had no knife at all when he was shot. Also in 2006, police shot out the windows of a deaf driver's car during a stop, and then tasered the man. All the while he screams over and over again, "I'm deaf! I'm deaf!" In 2007, Ceres police shot a man fleeing arrest in the back, and according to them he was "reaching for a gun." G20 protester launches $1M lawsuit

*A lawsuit claiming more than $1 million in damages has been launched against Toronto police by one of the G20 protesters.* Natalie Gray says she was shot twice by what she believes were rubber bullets during a demonstration on Sunday, June 27. After the shooting, "she was driven around in a police car for 30 minutes before she was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for her injuries. She was then taken to the detention centre on Eastern Avenue, where she was taunted by police officers, denied access to her asthma medication, strip searched and denied access to counsel, despite her repeated requests to speak to a lawyer. Natalie was detained for approximately 30 hours before she was released on bail the next day," said a statement from the office of her lawyer, Clayton Ruby.

Around twenty members and supporters of Trident Ploughshares joined a blockade and protest at one of the gates to the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston, Berkshire during this morning’s rush hour in protest at plans to build a new multi-million pound warhead testing facility at the site. Four of the activists chained themselves together with arm tubes and lay down in front of the gate for two hours, but released themselves without any of them being arrested at around 9.30am. Others stood close to them with banners, and sang songs. Many workers trying to enter the base were diverted away by Ministry of Defence police, who were in attendance; but traffic on the public highway appeared to be unaffected.
