Ce genre d’actions contre la marchandisation de l’éducation universitaire ont émergé et fleuri depuis les premiers jours dans notre démocratie. Et ils ont été une partie régulière de notre vie universitaire à travers l’Afrique depuis que la Banque Mondiale a décidé, dans le milieu des années 1980, que les universités été un luxe inaccessible pour l’Afrique. Firefighters are tackling a large blaze after a suspected arson attack on two industrial units in Hampshire.The fire started in the roof space of the units in Fareham Industrial Estate at about 0300 GMT.More than 40 firefighters have been tackling the flames but have been hampered by poor local water supplies, although it is now under control.Police said the incident was being treated as arson and warned people that roads in the area will be closed.Group Manager Dan Tasker said "The internal structure of the building and poor water supplies at the location have hampered firefighting operations.bbc news

On March 16th and March 19th, Noah (American) and Natasha (Australian) will go to trial for charges related to the organization of demonstrations against the COP15 conference in Copenhagen in December 2009. They are facing politically motivated charges which accuse them of organizing to disrupt the public order and do violence to police, and face stiff prison sentences as well as deportation form Denmark. Both were targeted by Danish police and arrested in December during the COP15, and kept in jail for 25 days in isolation before being released in advance of their trials. Their trials are part of a campaign of police repression carried out by the Danish police during the COP15 in which over 2,000 people were arrested within a week of protests. Of all arrested, only around 30 were charged with any crime, and those that were charged were kept in jail for between one week and 47 days without trial. Some have already gone to trial and either been acquitted or received small jail sentences and heavy fines for charges such as assaulting a police officer or throwing a stone. Some have also been deported and banned from Denmark for 6 years. Noah And Natasha are the first two to go to trial of seven accused of organizing demonstrations, and face much stiffer jail sentences (a year or more) then those who have previously gone to trial. The case is being brought on minimal and sketchy evidence, primarily acquired through dubious phone taps and other types of police surveillance. read more

SWISS football fans turned on brutal police on Saturday night, leaving seven cops injured.As usual, corporate media put the blame on the supporters, with the likes of Le Matin reporting that the FC Zurich supporters started throwing stones and lumps of concrete at the police and smashing shop windows, with the situation escalating to the point where the cops had to use rubber bullets.However, a comment from a fan on the 20 Minuten Online website tells a different story. He writes: "Everything was quiet until, without any warning, the police rushed at one fan and started firing rubber bullets. The FCZ fans then responded with the stones and concrete."The riot took place between the Brügglifeld stadium and Aarau station.FCZ had won their Super League match against Aarau 3-1 - not the circumstances in which fans are usually looking for any trouble. The Times: A family whose members were killed in a botched night raid in eastern Afghanistan have rejected “blood money” from the Government and vowed to carry out suicide attacks unless the perpetrators are brought to justice. Two pregnant women, a teenage girl, a policeman and his brother were shot dead on February 12 by unidentified gunmen. Eight men were arrested in the raid on the village of Khataba in Paktia province.
