The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continued to seal off the Gaza Strip for the eleventh day in a row, in an escalation of the collective punishment of Gaza's population imposed since 2000. The IOF resumed its military attacks and killed four Palestinians this morning in an air strike in east Gaza.

(en) Italy, "Squaring the 'democracy' circle" - MEDIA: Uproar as top police cleared of attack on Genoa G8 protesters

[justice will never be found in the courts, so this isn't surprising. and btw,
fuck the British daily The Guardian, for their "backstory" at the end that
justifies the violence perpetrated by these scumfuck pigs if the "black bloc"
had actually been in the school, instead of merely "peaceful protesters." -k.]
There was uproar in a Genoa court last night after some of Italy's highest
ranking police officers, accused of masterminding a savage attack on peaceful
protesters at the G8 meeting in the city seven years ago, were cleared of the
charges against them. ---- The area reserved for the public erupted into chants
of "shame, shame" as the presiding judge finished reading his verdict. The

Genova trial ends in shame

Acquittals and ridiculously mild sentences for the butchers at DIAZ
The senders of the violence perpetrated on July 21, 2001 at the Diaz school in Genova during the G8summit were acquitted yesterday, after a long trial. No jail, no punishment at all for Giovanni Luperi, and for Francesco Gratteri, who ok-ed the massacre. Out of 29 defendants only 13 were sentenced. Shame on the system, shame on the government, shame on those who showed no courage. Our heart goes out to Carlo Giuliani's mother, to Mark Covell, who was at the trial yesterday, and visibly incredulous, to the victims of the beatings, the accusations, the humiliations. Let us not forget.

Shut Down H&K and No Borders Nottingham will be holding a demonstration to highlight the link between the arms trade and refugees. According to the UN Refugee Agency, “armed conflict is now the driving force behind most refugee flows,” and the most devastating weapons are small arms such as rifles and machine guns.FULL CIRCLE - from weapons to wars to refugeesJOIN THE DEMONSTRATION in Old Market Square, Nottingham on Saturday 29th November 2008, starts 12:30pmNottingham is home to one of the world’s largest small arms producers – Heckler & Koch. The weapons produced by H&K and other G8 arms companies fuel conflicts in the Global South, forcing millions of people to flee their homes. Some of those refugees end up seeking asylum in Nottingham, where they face a struggle to avoid being deported.Come and join us on Saturday November 29th at 12:30 on Old Market Square as we call for an end to exporting guns and deporting people. We will be holding a die-in to represent the consequences of H&K’s trade, and the horrors from which refugees have fled. Bring drums to make a joyful sound. Shut Down Heckler & Koch! Freedom of movement and the right to remain for all! No guns, no borders!!

Social Movements Against the Global Security Architecture!

A Critique of the Militarisation of Social Conflict and the Securitisation of Everyday Life
Gipfelsoli from Interactivist
Recent unrest due to food price hikes, protests against rising energy costs, visions and realities of a climate crisis and growing concerns over scarce resources, in conjunction with the continued turmoil of financial markets, are creating a sense of insecurity for a neoliberal regime in severe crisis. The G8 states and their allies are seeking to contain these conflicts and the evident accumulation crisis of the global economy through market-orientated solutions in order to restore economic growth whilst calls for more state intervention in the regulation of financial markets are rife. At the same time, the 'war on terror' serves to justify ever-more militarisation of all spheres of life. Wars are waged to secure new markets, transport routes and resources. New techniques of governance are emerging within a logic of waging war against who- or whatever cannot be made profitable.
