London: Grand reopening of the Non Commercial House FreeShop! 16 January 2010
from email, 13 January 2010:
NON COMMERCIAL HOUSE IS BACK! GRAND RE-OPENING OF THE FREESHOP
Saturday 16th Jan. 12noon onwards.
The Non Commercial House was a squatted autonomous space on 165 Commercial Street, London, E1 (next to Bishopsgate, Liverpool st tube station). The project consisted of a giant Free Shop, for people to share, recycle what they dont need, take what they need. It was evicted on 30th November 2009, by high court bailiffs on behalf of the owner The City of London.
But the place was taken back!
This coming Saturday, 15th of January, is the Grand Re-Opening of the FreeShop. Come along at 12noon, bring items you no longer require that are clogging up your home!
Apart from the FreeShop and probably some free food and loads of cuppas, we will have a bit of lockpicking skillsharing, reverse strip poker games (every time you lose you have to wear an extra item, perfect for winter time!), and some music in the evening to enjoy the space at its best!
We live in a society of over consumption and waste. Non Commercial House aims to offer an alternative based upon cooperation, mutual respect and sustainable living. It is not only about objects but about sharing!
Children are very welcome within the space. We are hoping to have a kids section of the free shop with free toys / clothes and hold family friendly events. The ground floor is wheelchair accessible. However, the only toilet in the building is on the top floor and not.
This is a non-profit, non-hierarchical space open to all and your input is valued so drop by some time to get involved and let us know what your ideas / thoughts are.

Police Review: magazine cartoon - "In staggeringly poor taste"
from J4J campaign, 18 November 2008: We would imagine that, in the midst of the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, publications aimed at and widely read by serving police officers would show greater sensitivity in the way they talk about fatal shootings by the police. But evidently not. The magazine "Police Review", in its 14 November edition, decided that the introduction of new rules preventing firearms officers from conferring after a shooting was best illustrated by this appalling cartoon. more
