Hackney Heckler community newspaper launched!
from hackney, 3 October 2009:
Hackney's only truly independent non-commercial community newspaper, Hackney Heckler is launched October 3rd 2009 by the Hackney Solidarity Network.
Hackney Solidarity Network aims to provide a space where both individuals and groups involved in campaigns or interested in campaigning, from across Hackney, can come to network, to report back on and share information on what they are doing, and to share skills and knowledge etc, to help improve communication between those campaigns, groups and individuals, to give people the opportunity to meet and socialise with each other, and to facilitate joint working and campaigning. It is aimed at all those involved in any sort of campaigning, community and voluntary work that seeks to help individuals and communities in Hackney.
HSN sees the Hackney Heckler as providing a platform for campaigns to report their the news about their campaigns in Hackney, and the first issue contains articles about the Woodberry Down housing scandal, the Sam Hallam Campaign, Hackney TUCs campaign against the BNP, the witchhunt against Hackney Unison branch officers, news from the local RMT Overground dispute and a wide list of local contacts, plus much more.
Hackney camapigners have sadly lacked an independent voice which we can all use to publcise our various causes and Hackney Heckler will give us this.
Any campaigns who wish to submit articles can do so via the email below and we will hope to include them, but with the deal that groups must then help distribute the newspaper.
