Benefit gig for CIPO-RFM prisoners in Oaxaca, Mexico - 16 April 2008
from email, 7 April 2008:
CIPO-RFM are a pressure group campaining for the rights of indiginous people in Oaxaca which is Mexicos poorest state. They were part of the APPO uprising in 2006 and have a long history of struggle against the corrupt Mexican political establishment. For a basic intro (In English) about who they are see this page:

As a result of their work many of their activists are in prison on false and trumped up charges. Nowhere is the state repression of CIPO-RFM more acutely felt than in the remote village of San Isidro Aloapam where men and women have been murdered by paramilitaries supporting an American logging company who are trying to cut down their local forest.
Other villagers have been detained and imprisoned by corrupt Police supporting the local establishment. At the the end of last year two London based IMC UK volunteers visited San Isidro to report on the situation. After many months of translating our findings from both Spanish and Zapatec we will shortly be publishing our material on this newswire. WATCH THIS SPACE....
In the meantime there will be a benefit gig for CIPO-RFM prisoners in London on April 16th. Details below. See you there.

Police Review: magazine cartoon - "In staggeringly poor taste"
from J4J campaign, 18 November 2008: We would imagine that, in the midst of the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, publications aimed at and widely read by serving police officers would show greater sensitivity in the way they talk about fatal shootings by the police. But evidently not. The magazine "Police Review", in its 14 November edition, decided that the introduction of new rules preventing firearms officers from conferring after a shooting was best illustrated by this appalling cartoon. more
