The protest has now spread to 3 jails in Mexico's most southerly state. Political prisoners in Mexico participating in the Other Campaign and the Zapatista fight are on hunger strike, some on the 33rd day
On the 12th February 2008, begun the hunger strike of Zacario Hernández Hernández in prison nº 14 of Cintalapa (in Chiapas). On the 25th February 12 more political prisoners begun a hungers strike, 8 from the "La Voz del Amate" group that participates in the other campaign and 4 that are Zapatista political prisoners. Their names are : Mateo Hernández Bautista, Alberto Patishtan Gómez, José Luis López Sánchez, Julio César Pérez Ruiz, José Pérez Pérez, Marcelino Díaz González, Ramón Guardaz Cruz, Juan Gómez Díaz, Jorge López López, Antonio Díaz Ruiz, Antonio Gómez Díaz, Miguel Gómez Gómez y Domingo Cruz Gómez.
They declare and demand:
* To continue the hunger strike until the Mexican state recognizes their violated human rights.
* That the penal charges are dropped off by the Ministry of Justice.
* They will not receive any form of medical care or food.
Their physical situation is deteriorating.
On the 4th March demanded their liberation, political prisoners from "La Voz de Los Llanos", of prison no. 5 of SCLC and begun hunger strike. Their names are: Tiburcio Gómez Pérez, Pedro Guadalupe Enriquez Santiz , Julio César Mendez Luna , José Luis Gómez Morales, Diego Rodriguez Hernández., Guadalupe Gómez Cruz , Manuel Ruiz Hernandez., Antonio Ruiz Pérez , Mario Jimenez Lòpez , and all part of the Other Campaign.
On the 10th March 12 indigenous political prisoners in prison Licenciado José Patrocinio González Garrido, in the municipality of Playas de Catazajá, started a hunger strike saying “We have been in prison for one year and eight months, we are 12 people and a woman who is in prison No. 5 of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, that we have been displaced from our lands given to the armed paramilitary group of OPDDIC in Busilja, municipality of Ocosingo Chiapas”.
Three prisoners of the organisation MOCRI started hunger strike.
In total there are 37 political prisoners on hunger strike and also 10 people that they maintain days of fasting and oration in the Cereso 14: Enrique Hernández Hernández, Pascual Heredia Hernández, Delia Pérez Arizmendi y Jesús López López y Andrés Hernández Hernández; in the Cereso 5: Antonio Díaz Pérez, Juan Díaz López, Miguel Díaz López, Felipe Gómez Pérez y Nicolás Pérez Núñez.
The indigenous prisoners, protest for their rights to be given to them since they have been deprived their freedom by means of cruelty and degrading procedures in which they were not guaranteed their rights to a due legal process, indicating inclusively that they were put under torture and treatments to obtain declarations of self accusation. Acts that are being unpunished in spite of the denunciation that they have suffered these degrading acts, committed and allowed by the public servants in charge of justice in the state of Chiapas.
In the end there is call and a list of people starting a protest by signatures to be sent to Governor of the state of Chiapas.

Domingo, día 16 de marzo. Jornada de ayuno en apoyo a la huelga de hambre de los presos políticos de Chiapas. De 12 a 19 horas en la Plaça de Sant Jaume de Barcelona
El día 12 de febrero de este año, inció una huelga de hambre en el Penal nº 14 de Cintalapa (Chiapas) Zacario Hernández Hernández. El 25 de febrero, iniciaron una huelga de hambre indefinida, 12 presos más del penal no.14 de Cintalapa: 8 integrantes de "La Voz del Amate" adherentes a la Otra Campaña y 4 que se reivindican como "presos políticos zapatistas", sus nombres son: Mateo Hernández Bautista, Alberto Patishtan Gómez, José Luis López Sánchez, Julio César Pérez Ruiz, José Pérez Pérez, Marcelino Díaz González, Ramón Guardaz Cruz, Juan Gómez Díaz, Jorge López López, Antonio Díaz Ruiz, Antonio Gómez Díaz, Miguel Gómez Gómez y Domingo Cruz Gómez. Se declatan en
• Huelga de hambre hasta en tanto el estado mexicano les restituya sus derechos humanos violentados.
• Demandan el desistimiento de la acción penal por parte del Ministerio de Justicia.
• Se niegan a ingerir todo clase de alimento y a recibir atención médica. Sus condiciones físicas y fisiológicas se epiezan a deteriorar.
El 4 de marzo, en demanda de libertad, 8 presos políticos, integrantes de "La Voz de Los Llanos", del penal no. 5 de SCLC comenzaron también una huelga indefinida de hambre, sus nombre son: Tiburcio Gómez Pérez, Pedro Guadalupe Enriquez Santiz , Julio César Mendez Luna , José Luis Gómez Morales, Diego Rodriguez Hernández., Guadalupe Gómez Cruz , Manuel Ruiz Hernandez., Antonio Ruiz Pérez , Mario Jimenez Lòpez , también son adherentes a la Otra Campaña.
El día 10 de marzo, doce indígenas presos en el penal Licenciado José Patrocinio González Garrido, en el municipio de Playas de Catazajá, se sumaron a la huelga de hambre “Ya tiene un año y 8 meses que estamos recluidos en el cereso, somos total 12 personas contando a una mujer que está en el cereso No. 5 de San Cristóbal de Las Casas por el sufrimiento agrario nos está despojando de nuestras tierras el procede a los grupos paramilitares de opddic armados en la comunidad de Busilja, municipio de Ocosingo Chiapas”.
3 presos de la organización MOCRI se suman a la huelga de hambre que ya están llevando a cabo: 13 compañeros presos en el Cereso n°14, El Amate, 9 en el Cereso n°5 de San Cristóbal de las Casas y 12 en el Cereso de Playas de Catazajá. En total, ya son 37 los presos que han decidido entrar en huelga en hambre. Además de 10 personas que mantienen jornadas de ayuno y oración, en el Cereso 14: Enrique Hernández Hernández, Pascual Heredia Hernández, Delia Pérez Arizmendi y Jesús López López y Andrés Hernández Hernández; en el Cereso 5: Antonio Díaz Pérez, Juan Díaz López, Miguel Díaz López, Felipe Gómez Pérez y Nicolás Pérez Núñez.
Los presos indígenas, reclaman se les restituyan sus derechos en virtud de haber sido privados de su libertad mediante procedimientos en los que no se observaron y garantizaron el derecho a un debido proceso legal, señalando inclusive, que fueron sometidos a tortura, tratos crueles, inhumanos y degradantes para obtener declaraciones autoinculpatorias. Hechos que han quedando impunes pese a la denuncia de haber padecido actos denigrantes cometidos y consentidos por servidores públicos encargados de la procuración y administración de justicia en el estado de Chiapas.
Es por ello que nos sumamos a estas peticiones para que el Gobernador del estado aplique las medidas necesarias para su puesta en libertad, tal como lo han hecho ya D. Samuel Ruiz García Obispo Emérito de San Cristóbal de las Casas, la Organización Paz con Democracia y diferentes organizaciones sociales de Chiapas, México y del mundo.

Police Review: magazine cartoon - "In staggeringly poor taste"
from J4J campaign, 18 November 2008: We would imagine that, in the midst of the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, publications aimed at and widely read by serving police officers would show greater sensitivity in the way they talk about fatal shootings by the police. But evidently not. The magazine "Police Review", in its 14 November edition, decided that the introduction of new rules preventing firearms officers from conferring after a shooting was best illustrated by this appalling cartoon. more
