VIDEO: Japanese TV video G8 2008 Infotour

from email, 19 October 2007:

Japanese TV video G8 2008 Infotour, direct from Lake Toya/Hotel Windsor/Hokkaido last week!

The German based anti-G8 infotour in Asia is just over half-finished, but still going to Philippines and Hong Kong in the next week and a half.

There will be a bigger report coming soon, but here is a 4 minute special regional TV news feature on the G8 protest and the infotour.

It is in Japanese, but worth seeing just for the video clips, and a little bit of English speaking with Japanese subtitles [video here].

You will quickly notice that it is really odd "soft news", really sensationalist like you might also find in the USA but not at all as decent as the German TV press. In the text (in case you speak japanese) is much wrong information.

Even so, the feature is interesting, and about the German protest video clips, they just report that they happened, without critique at all but wondering if the same scenes will occur in Hokkaido next summer.

The report overly reports the influence of one infotour member in the mobilisation, but generally makes a favorable report.

Interesting scenes are also one at the beginning when you see the back of a man, and then a car just after that clip.

The reporter remarks (truly) that the infotour was obviously being followed by undercover police. Another scene shows us trying to make an interview with our video crew inside the G8 site Hotel Windsor, which was denied.

Japanese activists mentioned that even though the piece was a bit strange, it was mainly good for the mobilisation.

INFOTOUR EUROPE:

1. A Tokyo based team will come to Germany and the region in Nov/Dec [2007] to show a new documentary about the activist scene there.

2. The No G8! Action Japan - http://a.sanpal.co.jp/no-g8/ - infotour will come to Europe in Jan/Feb 2008.

Both tours are looking for infotour hosts. If your nation or region can host a tour in their area, please see if it is possible and then contact them in Japan.

However, please try not to make individual offers, but do try to organise national tours for them to save money and time.

They also need funds for expensive airfare, so, sadly some priority will be given to those areas that can help pay the expenses.

Also, language is a bit of a problem, so if you can find translators to translate from Japanese to your language, that is quite helpful.

Write here to offer to host either tour:

More reports about Asian infotour soon!
