International day to support 'Il Silvestre' prisoners (Italy) - Fri 15 September 2006
REPOSTED: Four months have passed since 10 comrades of the 'Il Slvestre' group (who produce the eco-anarcho magazine 'Terra Selvaggia' ) have been arrested (5 in prison and 5 under house arrest), accused of subversive association. This is one of many Italian government attempts to destroy a group that in the course of the years has produced a lot of newspapers, pamphlets, meetings, demos, solidarity, books, etc.
The peculiarity of 'Il Silvestre' has been to seek a link in the struggles in defence of the Earth and the ones in defence of all living beings, against biotechnology, vivisection, prisons, psychiatry, social control, and others.
Never hiding the hate against political structures, never hiding support for direct action.
No compromise in the defence of the Earth!
We consider that dispersion, isolation and torture of prisoners are a "normal" behaviour of a police State. But not for this we will surrender. The free and wild spirit of our comrades roars behind the bars where they are locked.
May we hear their call?
Every group, collective or individual can show solidarity in every possible way - Attack the System!
With them in our hearts!

Background:
Terra Selvaggia: Italian Eco-anarchists under repression
About the arrests:
Ten anarchists associated with the group 'Il Silvestre' in Pisa, who produce the publication 'Terra Selvaggia' ('Wild Earth') were arrested on May 4 on the order of public prosecutor Angela Pietroiusti from Florence, who also led the infamous 'C.O.R.' investigation which had targetted the collective.
The accusations are: Conspiracy to overthrow the State (article 270bis), possession of explosives and attack against a nuclear power line (an event in September 2005 which saw an electricity pylon in the mountains near Pisa being damaged by explosives).
On the same day three anarchists were arrested in Rome on order of public prosecutor Salvatore Vitello. It seems that these arrests are in connection with public prosecutor Pietroiusti's investigation in Florence, but the three are actually accused of stealing a car. The day after their arrest, two of the comrades were given house arrest (no phonecalls, no visits, etc).
Below is a list of all those who have been remanded as a result of the various raids/arrests on the 4th of May in Italy. Former ALF prisoner, Sergio Maria Stefani, is one of the people who was arrested in Rome and its been confirmed he has been remanded. Matteo Furcolo has been released, but got house arrest.

On Friday the 7th of July 2006 another trial against 11 Italian eco-anarchists from the group came to an end. 5 were found not guilty, but six were convicted of activities associated with the Marxist group C.O.R. (Revolutionary Offensive Cells) which included acts of arson, targetting right wing politicians, targetting a police station construction site, etc.
The trial of the defendants has been described by observers as a farce. There was no real evidence against the group other than the publication with which they are associated had published a C.O.R. press release in their pages. This is a total attack on the freedom of information and ideas to circulate, it is a cynical act of censorship aimed at the underground press. Also, we regard it as an act against supporting prisoners as the fact the group had campaigned in solidarity of eco-prisoner Marco Camenisch was also used against them.
The sentences handed down to the six who were found guilty are as follows
William Frediani - 6 years
Francesco Gioia - 5 years, 2 months
Costantino Ragusa - 5 years
Alessio Perondi - 3 years, 8 months
Benedetta Galante - 3 years, 6 months
