G8 Evian: Geneve, Lausanne and Annemasse erupt
Posted 11:52 02 June 2003: Over a 100,000 people from all over europe march against the meeting of the Group of 8 [G8] in Evian. Geneve and Lausanne kicks-off in a orgy of violence [or something like that].
For up to date news see Indymedia UK. We will have a full report on the site soon. WOMBLES anti-G8 brigade were all detained at the Annemasse camp yesterday [Sunday June 1st] for several hours. People were surrounded by riot filth but there was solidarity and good humour amongst the 1,000 people detained at a holding centre. People were handcuffed with plastic cable ties and placed in single sex cells. A Female WOMBLE with other women managed to release themselves from the handcuffs and break out their cell where they released other male "prisoners". The mood was militant and everyone kept there spirits high.
Sadly we have heard that two of our friends have been hospitalised yesterday. One by a stun grenade and the other by having the ropes cut whilst hanging of a bridge during a blockade. IMC UK has up to date information on the two.

Police Review: magazine cartoon - "In staggeringly poor taste"
from J4J campaign, 18 November 2008: We would imagine that, in the midst of the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, publications aimed at and widely read by serving police officers would show greater sensitivity in the way they talk about fatal shootings by the police. But evidently not. The magazine "Police Review", in its 14 November edition, decided that the introduction of new rules preventing firearms officers from conferring after a shooting was best illustrated by this appalling cartoon. more
